Grade Placement & Age Criteria 2026–2027

For the Academic Year 2026, Himalayan International Academy (HIA) follows the Japanese academic calendar, which typically begins in April. In accordance with the school’s policy and local regulations, children enter Grade 1 in th April after they turn 6 years old. To help you determine your child’s placement, here is the age-grade eligibility list based on March 31st cutoff.

Admission Criteria & Assessment

Age Eligibility

Students must meet the age requirements for their respective grade levels as of the start of the academic year.

Academic Readiness

For Grade 1 and higher, baseline English and Mathematics assessments may be used to evaluate learning levels initially.

Language Proficiency

In our multilingual setting, students’ curriculum readiness is assessed, with additional language support programs available when needed.

Previous Records

Submission of previous school reports and a transfer certificate (if applicable) is required.

Admission Procedure

Interested candidates can apply online or by visiting the school. For visiting school, please make a reservation beforehand to ease the process. The new academic year starts in April, so we encourage the candidates to apply before that. HIA also has a rolling admission, so there will be no deadline for applications throughout the year.
