“Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn.”

Our kindergarten focuses on academic and personal growth in every student. The kindergarten program cultivates independence and a passion for learning, building a strong foundation in literacy and the arts. The small class size and supportive environment create a lifelong learning experience for the students. The learning is based on the activities and tasks conducted by students. The role of teacher is more of a guide than the instructor.

Kindergarten Experience

Nursery - UKG

Our Kindergarten program for students in Nursery, LKG, and UKG is designed to nurture our youngest learners in a safe, engaging, and interactive environment. The teaching learning is rooted in a play-based philosophy, recognizing that children learn best through exploration, discovery, and hands-on activities. Our primary goal is to build our students’ confidence and instill a lifelong love for learning.

The daily experience in Kindergarten focuses on the development of foundational skills across several key domains:

Elementary/Primary

Where Young Learners Thrive

The age to start elemenray school is 6+, and our elementary school program is designed to do more than just teach, it’s about building a strong foundation for lifelong learning while helping each child grow as a person and develop important social-emotional skills.

In Grades 1 to 3, we believe learning should feel like an adventure, not a chore. That’s why we focus on hands-on, activity-based learning instead of endless memorization. Our younger students have a lighter schedule with just four classes a day, giving them plenty of time to explore, create, and discover. This approach helps them build confidence naturally while keeping their curiosity alive. When students move to Grades 4 and 5, things get a bit more structure academically, but still engaging. With five classes a day, we strike a balance between academics and personal growth.

The core subjects for elementary are English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Nepali, Japanese, and ICT. But we also make sure they’re developing the soft skills that really matter: critical thinking, group work, self-management and expressing themselves effectively.

Learning doesn’t stop when the bell rings, though. We’ve packed the calendar with experiences that make school life rich and memorable; weekly outdoor, clebrating festivals, cultural celebrations that honor our heritage, academic tours that take learning beyond the classroom, dance classes, karate training, art and craft class, yoga and meditation sessions, and chances for students to present their ideas to others. These aren’t just “extras”, they’re essential parts of growing up.

Our goal? To make sure every child leaves elementary school not just academically prepared, but truly ready for life; confident, responsible, and excited about whatever comes next.

Admission Class Orientation

At Himalayan International Academy (HIA), we are committed to providing a nurturing and challenging educational environment for students as they transition through their upper primary and middle school years. We cater to students aged 10 and above, recognizing the unique developmental needs and growing independence of this age group.

For the academic year 2025-2026, HIA proudly offers education up to Grade 8. We welcomed our first Grade 8 cohort in April 2025, marking an exciting expansion of our academic program.

Our curriculum for these grades is thoughtfully designed to build upon foundational knowledge and encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative skills. Students in Grade 6 through Grade 8 will engage in a comprehensive study of core subjects, including:

High School

Grade 9–10

Our High School program for Grades 9 and 10 marks a pivotal transition in each student’s academic journey. Building upon the foundational knowledge established in Lower Secondary, this program introduces greater depth, specialization, and intellectual rigor that prepares students for advanced study and future professional pursuits.

Where Grades 6–8 emphasize breadth across core disciplines, the Grade 9–10 program enables students to cultivate focused expertise and begin defining their academic trajectory through deliberate stream selection.

Academic Pathways

Beginning in Grade 9, students move from a unified curriculum into one of two specialized academic streams. This structure allows for intensive subject engagement while laying essential groundwork for tertiary education and career exploration.

The Mathematics Stream

Designed for students drawn to analytical thinking, natural phenomena, and quantitative reasoning, this pathway channels curiosity into structured scientific inquiry.

The Social Science Stream

Crafted for students fascinated by human behavior, cultural patterns, and the forces that shape societies, this pathway cultivates nuanced understanding of our interconnected world.
